While there was a relatively low turn-out... residents approved the spending plan, 322-to-55. School Superintendent Kevin Whitaker was pleased with the result... and, says careful budgeting -- like people do at home -- has helped produce those recent, zero tax increase spending plans. Whitaker says it was also important to establish the reserve funds to help pay the local share of capital projects, and upkeep of new facilities, or construction if state funding winds up being cut. Dr. Whitaker was also pleased with the fact two reserve funds were also adopted. One creating an up-to $10-million capital reservice fund is designed to help pay the local share of current and future capital projects. Whitaker says the other is to create a $1.5-million dollar maintenance and repair reserve. School board incumbants Joe Pawelski and Frank Galeazzo both ran unopposed. Pawelski received 329 votes...while Galeazzo got 319. Results are unofficial pending the school board's canvass of the vote totals.
