It will be at least another month before an independent audit of the city of Dunkirk's 2024 finances is complete.  That from Mayor Kate Wdowiasz, who updated the matter following Tuesday's Common Council meeting.  Wdowiasz says the audit should be completed in 30 to 45-days, which would put it on track towards the end of September.  She says a couple of components -- the Dunkirk Housing Authority and Dunkirk Local Development Corporation -- are still missing.  She adds the DLDC should be coming in the "next few days."  Wdowiasz also cited the ongoing investigation into the City Treasurer's Office by the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office and New York State Comptroller's Office as also consuming a "lot of time" this year.  Her comments come as state lawmakers George Borrello and Andrew Molitor are putting pressure on the city to comply with its financial reporting obligations.  Both say the city missed a July deadline to submit it to the state.  Wdowiasz says they are incorrect regarding the need to have the audit done by a certain deadline, but adds that she understands the urgency in getting the audit finalized, since it will help get the city into its deficit financing.

Wendel says he first proposed a restructuring of that panel more than a year ago... to include officials from all lake communities, the legislature and lake groups.  In recent days... more weed cutters have been out and conditions have improved.  Wendel made his comments for this coming weekend's "Community Spotlight" program on the six Media One Radio Group stations.
